Mock Madness 4.0: Experts Project Potential Trade for Vikings
April 27, 2017 02:21 PM | Eric Smith

EDEN PRARIE, Minn. - The wait is over. The 2017 NFL Draft is here.

All eyes will be on Philadelphia for the next three days as hundreds of college prospects make the leap into the NFL.

The Vikings current first pick is in the second round (48th overall), and Minnesota is scheduled to select from the No. 79 and No. 86 spots in the third round. Because the Vikings don't have a first-round pick, we'll focus on the second and third rounds for Mock Madness.

But that doesn't mean there won't be some excitement, as one expert projected the Vikings to trade up. Some went heavy on offensive linemen while others think the Vikings should upgrade their defensive line and running back group.

The first round of the draft begins Thursday at 7 p.m. (CT). Rounds 2 and 3 are on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. (CT), while the final four rounds are Saturday starting at 11 a.m. (CT).

Our first mock recap from early February can be found here, while the second Mock Madness from March is here. Mock Madness 3.0 is here.

Here's a look at our fourth and final Mock Madness:

ESPN's Mel Kiper, Jr.

April 19, 2017

The predicted second-round pick: Caleb Brantley, DT, Florida

The predicted third-round picks: Duke Riley, LB, LSU; Amara Darboh, WR, Michigan

The take: The Vikings almost certainly will try to take an offensive lineman on Day 2, but I don't have any left on the board at 48. As a result, I'm switching gears to defense. Snagging Brantley, my third-ranked defensive tackle, in the second round is good value. He had an up-and-down career but was incredibly disruptive when he played at his best. Riley is a versatile defender who started only one season for LSU but made plays all over the field. With the extra third-round pick they received when the Dolphins traded up last year, I'm giving Minnesota a project receiver in Darboh, who had 14 career touchdowns.

Star Tribune's Matt Vensel

April 25, 2017

The predicted second-round pick: Dan Feeney, G, Indiana

The take: Instead of reaching for the top offensive tackle left in a poor class for that position, the Vikings grab one of the top guards in Feeney, who is a smart, tough and athletic blocker.

The predicted third-round picks: Antonio Garcia, T, Troy; Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo

The take: Garcia may need to add size and strength to play at the NFL level, but the Vikings appear to be intrigued, having been one of about a dozen teams to send someone to his pro day.

Slippery and surprisingly powerful for a 5-10, 216-pound running back, Hunt has a combination of skills that could help him become a three-down back in the NFL.

CBS Sports' R.J. White

April 14, 2017

TRADE: Vikings acquire picks No. 39 (second round) and No. 107 (third round) from the New York Jets for picks No. 48 (second round), No. 86 (third round) and No. 199 (sixth round)

The predicted second-round pick (No. 39): Chris Wormley, DT, Michigan

The take: The Vikings can't wait any longer to pick, sending pick Nos. 86 and 199 (and getting back No. 107) to add a versatile defensive lineman to play inside.

The predicted third-round pick (No. 107): Dorian Johnson, G, Pittsburgh

The take: The Vikings upgraded both tackle spots in free agency but could still use a starting-caliber right guard. Johnson's steady play gives him a relatively high floor as a starter in the NFL.

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller

April 27, 2017

The predicted second-round pick: Jabril Peppers, S, Michigan

The predicted third-round picks: Dion Dawkins, T, Temple; Samaje Perine, RB, Oklahoma

FOX Sports' Peter Schrager

April 26, 2017

The predicted second-round pick: Zach Cunningham, LB, Vanderbilt

The predicted third-round picks: Caleb Brantley, DT, Florida; Dorian Johnson, G, Pittsburgh

NFL.com's Chad Reuter

April 21, 2017

The predicted second-round pick: Raekwon McMillan, LB, Ohio State

The predicted third-round picks: Jaleel Johnson, DT, Iowa; Taywan Taylor, WR, Western Kentucky

WalterFootball.com's Charlie Campbell

April 26, 2017

The predicted second-round pick: Dan Feeney, G, Indiana

The take: The Vikings grab a guard upgrade. The 6-foot-4, 304-pound Feeney is a well-balanced blocker. He has the strength to contribute as a run blocker and was effective in pass protection for the Hoosiers. According to Indiana, Feeney had allowed only one sack in 2,719 snaps - 37 career games - entering 2016. The senior missed a lot of time in 2016 with a concussion and also had to play some right tackle. For the NFL, however, Feeney projects as a power guard.

The predicted third-round picks: Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo; Pat Elflein, C/G, Ohio State

The take: The Vikings grab a long-term starting running back. Hunt averaged 5.6 yards per carry in 2016 for 1,475 yards with 10 touchdowns. He also made 41 receptions for 403 yards and a touchdown. Hunt (5-10, 208) was excellent at the Senior Bowl, using his speed to slash through the defense. He was very impressive as a receiver out of the backfield, too. Hunt doesn't have the size to be an every-down back in the NFL, but he could be a dangerous weapon as a complementary back and be an asset in passing situations.

The Vikings grab some offensive line talent, and they've shown interest in Elflein. Elflein was a solid blocker in 2016 for Ohio State at center. That looks like his best position for the NFL. The 6-foot-3, 303-pounder played well in 2015. He was an excellent run blocker, opening holes for Ezekiel Elliott. Elflein is also reliable in pass protection. As a sophomore, he was a starter at left and right guard while doing a superb job of helping the Buckeyes to feature a powerful rushing attack.

DraftWire's Luke Easterling

April 17, 2017

The predicted second-round pick: Dorian Johnson, G, Pittsburgh

The predicted third-round picks: Montravious Adams, DL, Auburn; Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland
